Learning with BPT:
How Our Sessions Work
-
As a BPT client, you will receive from our tutors the highest levels of expertise, professionalism and effort. The syllabus and resources for each student are determined as appropriate by the tutor: we can offer any subject listed on our website, all taught by a subject specialist.
The BPT Director and your BPT tutor will then work with you directly – listening to your priorities, establishing rapport and building confidence – to develop a bespoke learning plan which is personalised and reflects your needs and goals.
We pride ourselves on individually tailored tuition – and are committed to learning how our learners learn. Of the many variables in education, we excel at all that we can control, enabling children to develop a love of learning, to aspire to their best possible prospects in education, and to realise the very best versions of themselves.
-
We understand that life is busy, which is why our tuition is designed with flexibility and convenience at its core. Our sessions are scheduled around you – just speak to your tutor to discuss the days and times that work best for you.
We have the flexibility to cover various timezones and schedules, both weekday and weekends, during term-time and holidays. The frequency that students meet with their tutors varies, but one or two hours a week is common for many of our students.
Our sessions are generally one hour long, although there is the flexibility of course to arrange longer ones.
We also have tutors based in or able to travel to certain physical locations (London, Oxford, Cambridge, Paris, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia) who can deliver in person sessions, either on a weekly basis or for intensive holiday sessions / courses.
Our tutors can provide a full programme of teaching and learning using video conferencing platforms (generally over Microsoft Teams or similar), supported by the use of GoogleDocs, Microsoft Office and Teams Classroom services, as well as e-mail and standard messaging platforms, wherever helpful.
The specific arrangements are agreed between individual clients and tutors to provide the best available solutions, reflecting circumstances and needs.
-
All BPT clients will receive regular BPT progress reports detailing areas covered, areas of progress and areas for development. These reports are sent with each new invoice – either monthly or per package of sessions, as agreed with the BPT Director.
Your BPT Tutor will also be on call for advice or informal updates via standard messaging platforms, phone and e-mail. Unlike many tutoring agencies, we understand the need for – and fully support – a direct relationship and partnership between tutor and parent.
-
As well as prioritising academic knowledge and exam preparation, BPT tutors will focus on nurturing critical thinking skills – interpretation, analysis, evaluation, reasoning, creative thinking and problem-solving.
Furthermore, we employ the Socratic method, using question-and-answer to facilitate learning by enquiry. We also like to challenge our students to be curious and embrace fields of knowledge that interest them – in other words, we believe in broadening intellectual horizons.
Finally, our tutors ensure continuity of learning across our tutorials, setting homework and recapping in the next session.
-
Our BPT tutors also focus on the following key skills when supporting students who will be undertaking major exams or interviews:
Revision strategies – planning and using time well, finding balance, revising actively
Exam technique – tackling questions, managing timing & stress, planning & checking
Interviews – coaching and mock interviews for school and university entrance tests
